Sarra Freedman
Head of the Competitive Program
BFA (Theatre/Dance)

Sarra found her love of dance early, and grew up dancing competitively at SBAD, training in a wide variety of genres. She complemented her competitive training in her teen years by attending Etobicoke School of the Arts, and later Ryerson Theatre School, majoring in Performance Dance. There, she had the opportunity to work with master teachers such as Nadia Potts, Vicki St Denys, Karen Duplisea, Kenny Pearl, and many more. She also had the pleasure of performing pieces choreographed by Matjash Mrozewski and Heidi Strauss, among notable others.
Since graduating, Sarra has made a point of continuing her dance education by taking part in a variety of training opportunities all over North America. She dedicates time to her professional development on a regular basis, and she feels lucky to have been able to continue to learn from many of the major influencers in the dance community.
Sarra’s primary focus is now on teaching and choreographing. Her passion for learning has allowed her to share her love of dance with thousands of young dancers over the last fifteen years. Recognized for her choreographic originality and emphasis on technique, her work has won multiple prestigious awards, and many of her dancers have gone on to pursue professional careers in dance. Sarra is thrilled to be heading up the competitive program, as well as teaching and choreographing, and is always excited to share her passion for the art form with the eager dancers at Canadian Dance Academy.
